Join us So many benefits to being a member

What does membership give me?

By President Andrew Maddock

I was recently asked what the benefits of chamber of commerce membership are. It’s a great question, and while I cannot comment on other organisations, the list of benefits associated with being a member of Sherborne Chamber are extensive and I would like to share with you some of the highlights.

Firstly, you become a member of a group of like-minded people who are in the perfect position to help promote and support one another. We have an amazing membership who have a lot in common. We all share this marvellous town and we want our businesses to thrive. Our membership is diverse, from retailers to accountants, media and marketing experts to bankers. In turn, our areas of expertise are diverse and we regularly support each other, offering advice and guidance depending on our fields.

It’s an excellent forum for networking and developing relationships. Your own business can grow and prosper quickly.

If you make it known that your product or service makes great client or employee gifts, you could wind up with a very nice flow of business from your fellow Chamber members.

Your profile will appear on this website and your services will benefit from our growing social media platforms and within the active Sherborne Twitter community.

You can post your vacancies on this site for FREE!

You’ll meet good, reliable sources for products and services like accounting, printing, computer support, etc.

You’ll be referred to other Chamber members’ contacts.

You have a good chance of meeting local retailers who may be interested in carrying your products

We now have a dedicated person contracted to work up to 5 hours a month promoting the chamber and its members through a newsletter. We can promote your news – so whatever is going on in your business, let us know and we can spread the word to our databases

Sherborne Chamber is run by a dedicated, hardworking panel of businesspeople who care passionately about the town. We want the town to thrive, and in turn, that means we want all of our businesses to be as successful as they possibly can be.

We understand how special Sherborne is, and, combined, we have a strong voice to stand up for what’s right for our commercial centre. We have direct access to the key organisations and can put your views to those who matter.

We meet regularly to discuss the hot topics of the town, and have held meetings with the police and the developers of the hotel site, to name a few, to ensure our voice is heard.

We also organise events such as the annual Festive Day which brings hundreds of people into the town.

The executive committee is structured, with each member having a particular specialism of responsibility. All members have the opportunity to stand for a position on the exec at the AGM.

Each executive member looks after about 10 general members to ensure members have a dedicated contact should they want to raise any issues or need support.

We are developing a group of mentors who can help develop your business and support your needs.

These are just a few of the many ways your area’s Chamber of Commerce can give you access to a valuable networking and marketing system.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to come along to a meeting to find out more.

Being part of the chamber keeps me up to date with what is happening in Sherborne and lets me plan my business accordingly. Being able to contact other members quickly to promote my business and spread news is a real asset!

The Chamber has provided us with wonderful opportunities to network with fellow businesses in Sherborne – to discuss experiences, ideas and plans, to learn from others and to feel reassured that much of what are experiencing as a businesses is shared by others.
