Dorset and Somerset Degree Apprenticeship Fair

You are invited to the new Careers Fair (Dorset & Somerset Degree Apprenticeship Fair) that Dorset Council’s Partnership are organising at The Gryphon School, Sherborne on 24th January 2018 from 1.30pm – 7pm. (DT9 4EQ for Satnav)

North Dorset District Council and Dorset Council Partnership helps to organise this event on behalf of the schools in the area. You will be aware that due to the rural nature of Dorset aspirations can be low. We aim to introduce as many students as possible to employers from a wide range of industries to demonstrate that there are excellent opportunities within the local area and nearby.

We have timetabled the event so that parents and members of the local community can also benefit from meeting you.

Timetable as follows:

Set Up                                                                                                    12.00pm     –        1.30pm

(Lunch will be available in the school canteen between 12.30pm and 1.15pm*)

Neighbouring schools, Parents and local community                               4.30pm –              7:00pm

*there will be a small charge for lunch

The event will be timetabled to 600 students in years 11-13 (15 years old – 18 years old) at the Gryphon School between 1.30pm and 3.30pm (between 3.30pm and 4.30pm a buffet of cakes and pastries will be served).

During the evening (from 4.30pm) the event will be open to all other schools and parents across Dorset, parents of the 1800 Gryphon students and the general public.

The aim of the fair is to provide students with assistance in deciding on their next steps after leaving school, to give information about routes to work in your industry, to promote your apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships and to encourage those from the local community hoping to start a new career.

We would be grateful if you can offer Information on the industry you represent, possible career opportunities, information and advice on how to access careers in your industry and the possibility to discuss the day to day work you undertake or to visit your company after the event.

Tips for success:

·         We have found at other events, that if you have a younger member of staff or an apprentice in your team it helps to break the ice and get the students talking.

This event will be a great opportunity for you to promote your HE Apprenticeships, general vacancies and networking opportunities.
