Honeywell Aerospace indicated in August that up to 100 employees currently based in Sherborne – on the Coldharbour Business Park – could be moved to Yeovil.
The Abbey Manor Group applied on Honeywell’s behalf for permission to construct a temporary car park near the existing Leonardo site, citing a lack of on-site parking for Honeywell’s employees.
The company has now withdrawn the car parking plans – but has confirmed that the move will still be going ahead, with no job losses being planned.
In a letter to South Somerset District Council’s planning department, Abbey Manor Group managing director Nigel Timmins claimed that Leonardo would be able to accommodate Honeywell’s staff with its existing parking provision.
He said: “To my utter incredulity, given the work done on this, Leonardo have now decided that they can accommodate the additional Honeywell car parking within the main complex after all, and thus Honeywell have asked us to withdraw this application.
“I am grateful to you for your assistance at the pre-application stage, and do sincerely regret the waste of all our time!”
A spokesman for Honeywell said: “The application for the temporary car park, which was filed by the land owner, has been withdrawn as additional parking at the Yeovil site has been allocated to Honeywell.
“The closure of our Sherborne site will see work transferred back to Yeovil and will not result in any job losses.
“We expect the move to be completed by late-2017”.
