Rural Dorset wine shop named best in the country at Drinks Retailing Awards

Sherborne’s Vineyards takes top spot as Independent Wine Retailer of The Year

The Drinks Retailing Awards took place this week with an industry-star-studded reception at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The biggest names in off-trade gathered together to celebrate the most important night in the UK drink industry’s calendar and crown the best in the business.

The night was a huge success for Sherborne-based independent retailer Vineyards, who bought home one of the most coveted accolades, Independent Wine Retailer of the Year, in a room full of the nation’s best.

Vineyards fought off strong competition from fellow finalists The Good Wine Shop and Reserve Wines, but after sailing through the most rigorous judging process on the awards circuit, including a mystery visit and an interview with head judge Nigel Huddleston; there was a clear winner.

Championing the off-trade market since 1863, the Drinks Retailing Awards sit right at the heart of the take-home drinks market, throwing the spotlight on businesses that excel in product range, customer service and making drinks special.

Hannah Wilkins, along with her business partner and wife, Sadie and their small, trusted team of wine experts offer an extensive portfolio, an excellent personalised service, and a real community hub, where locals regularly enjoy tasting evenings and workshops.

On receiving the award, Hannah Wilkins said: “It feels absolutely surreal to think that our little wine shop in rural Dorset has been recognised at such a level. I started Vineyards in 2005, when I was just 24, and I’ve been in the trade 25 years, yet I can honestly say that that this is a career high. I love great wine, I want everyone to enjoy quality wine, I’m passionate about being independent – and to get this award in 2023, all these years later, with such fantastic national competitors, reassures me that we’re obviously doing something right. I’m not sure when it’s going to start to sink in though – Sherborne is definitely on the wine map now!”

From everyone at Sherborne Chamber, we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations Vineyards!
